{"id":6868,"date":"2012-10-01T12:00:38","date_gmt":"2012-10-01T12:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.imsa.edu\/acronym\/?p=6868"},"modified":"2012-10-01T18:26:31","modified_gmt":"2012-10-01T18:26:31","slug":"eic-look-imsa-club-fair-open-monday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.imsa.edu\/acronym\/2012\/10\/01\/eic-look-imsa-club-fair-open-monday\/","title":{"rendered":"IMSA Club Fair Open Monday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By: David Lisk, IMSA News staff writer<\/p>\n<p>Each year the Old Caf is filled with representatives from a multitude of clubs at IMSA.\u00a0 Lines of tables are set up and representatives from each club advertise their club to students.\u00a0 It\u2019s the annual IMSA club fair.\u00a0 Each year the club fair gives students a chance to learn about and join new clubs.\u00a0 The club fair will be taking place on Monday, October 1, from 5-6:30PM in the Old Caf.<\/p>\n<p>At each club fair StudCo chartered clubs do their best to attract new members.\u00a0 Not all clubs are required to have a presence at the club fair but almost all do.\u00a0 This is a list of all Studco chartered clubs:<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Advanced Computing Association (ACA) <\/strong>provides resources to students in order to set up any projects they want related to computers. ACA also provides workshops where people can come and learn or teach about any computer topic that they would like, such as programming, networking, or even hacking. Anyone who enjoys computers or would like to start a computing project is encouraged to join.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_6877\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sites.imsa.edu\/acronym\/files\/2012\/09\/clubfair.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6877\" class=\"wp-image-6877 \" src=\"http:\/\/sites.imsa.edu\/acronym\/files\/2012\/09\/clubfair.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-6877\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Student Council&#039;s Club Fair is annually attended by many IMSA students. (IMSA Club Fair 2011)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>African-American Students Association (AASA)<\/strong> aims to educate the IMSA community about African American\/ Black culture.\u00a0 The meetings are open to everybody.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Amnesty International<\/strong> is an NGO that seeks to educate people about human rights issues.\u00a0 The club educates the IMSA community through presentations and discussions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Advancing Knowledge in Biology\/An eXploration Of Neuroscience (AXON) <\/strong>is dedicated to teaching and learning about the brain.\u00a0 Come have a great time at the meetings!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Badminton Club<\/strong> gives students a chance to play friendly and competitive badminton with each other.\u00a0 The club also holds several tournaments throughout the year that students can participate in.\u00a0 Students of any skill level can join.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Beautiful Empowered Ladies Leading All (BELLAs) <\/strong>transforms young women into leaders who embrace diversity by learning more about social, racial, and gender issues.\u00a0 The club also confronts discriminatory practices and promotes open dialogue.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Crossfire Debate Club<\/strong> gives students a chance to practice their public speaking skills with students and ponder ethics- and have fun doing it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Club Verno<\/strong> is the environmental club that spreads knowledge about preserving the environment to the IMSA community.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Economics Club<\/strong> teaches the campus basic concepts of economics.\u00a0 The club also fosters intellectual economic debate and furthers the understanding of economics of its members.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Exodus <\/strong>is a hands on program that gives students a chance to tutor refugees in the Aurora area.\u00a0 Service hours are given.\u00a0 The club also promotes campus wide awareness about refugees.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hatikvah <\/strong>is IMSA\u2019s Jewish culture club.\u00a0 The club is dedicated to spread awareness, understanding, and celebration of Jewish culture.\u00a0 The club holds celebrations of all major Jewish holidays.\u00a0 Anyone can join.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Indian Student Alliance (ISA) <\/strong>educates students about Indian culture and heritage.\u00a0 The club\u2019s two major events are Diwali in the fall and a Samosa Mixer in the spring.\u00a0 Anyone can participate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Karate Club <\/strong>teaches people how to defend themselves and stay fit.\u00a0 Sessions of the club include sparring, educational classes, and practical self defense.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Medical Society<\/strong> educates the IMSA body about the medical field.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mod 21<\/strong> is IMSA\u2019s a capella group. Anyone interested in singing for the IMSA community or singing in general would love this group.\u00a0 Members are selected by audition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Radio Club<\/strong> members of this club can help make radio productions that air to IMSA students over the internet.\u00a0 The IMSA radio station features popular music, DJ\u2019s, news, and more.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Ping Pong Club<\/strong> serves as a medium for students to share the joys of playing ping pong on IMSA campus, while granting them the opportunity to hone their skills for competitive play.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shanti<\/strong> spreads the Hindu culture and religion by planning festivities and trips for the IMSA community. The club shares the stories behind holidays and events so students know why they are celebrated. Students interested in Hindu meditation and yoga are also encouraged to join the club.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Student Committee for IMSA Advancement<\/strong> works to improve legislative and alumni relations. Events planned for this year include legislative panels.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spectrum<\/strong> is IMSA\u2019s Gay-Sraight Alliance.\u00a0 The club provides a safe place for members of the LGBTQ community and Allies to discuss LGTBQ issues at IMSA and worldwide.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spreading Music Around the Community (SMAC)<\/strong> not surprisingly spreads music around the IMSA campus.\u00a0 The club holds coffee houses, holiday grams, and musical valentines.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SPARK<\/strong> is a club that focuses on making a difference on the impact of neurodegenerative diseases through partnerships, research, internal education, and service. We were inspired by the cause-based organization Shine On&#8217;s work last year on ALS, and plan to continue and expand upon Shine On&#8217;s actions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>IMSA Christians<\/strong> is the body of Christ at IMSA. We are here to provide a place for IMSA&#8217;s Christian community to spiritually grow. We also seek to represent our faith well to those unfamiliar with Christianity. Whether you have gone to church your entire life or just want to check out what that &#8220;Christian thing&#8221; is, you&#8217;re welcome to join us for Bible study, prayer, and Christian fellowship!<\/p>\n<p>Descriptions are not available for the following clubs. However, you can still learn more about them at the club fair:<\/p>\n<p>Asian Students In America (ASIA)<br \/>\nCampus Activities Board<br \/>\nDrama Club<br \/>\nFuture Business Leaders of America (FBLA)<br \/>\nGospel Choir<br \/>\nHeliotrope<br \/>\nLatin Club<br \/>\nMu Alpha Theta<br \/>\nStudio 1500<br \/>\nTitan Fusion<br \/>\nVegan and Vegetarian Club<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Co-Curriculars at Club Fair:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Acronym <\/strong>is IMSA&#8217;s official student newspaper, which is what you&#8217;re reading right now! At least one new article is published every day on topics ranging from sports to world events. In addition to an online news source, we will also be publishing a quarterly print edition. If you missed the staff writer application deadline last month, we will have sign ups for those who are still interested at club fair!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Junior Statesmen of America (JSA)<\/strong>\u00a0promotes civic engagement and provides an outlet for students to voice their opinions. Some activities include gavel debates, debate watch parties, and thought talks! We attend three major conventions throughout the year: Fall State, where we debate in the chambers of the Wisconsin Capitol building, Winter Congress, in Washington DC, and Spring State, in Oakbrook Illinois.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Model United Nations (MUN)<\/strong>, as its name would suggest,\u00a0is a simulation of the United Nations. Students sign up to be ambassadors for a country and work to advance their country&#8217;s aims. Conferences are held at a variety of colleges across the country, including the University of Chicago and Cornell University.<\/p>\n<p>Descriptions are not available for the following co-curriculars.
