Unit Objectives

TIME:  7 weeks

By the end of this unit, you will be able to:

  • ask and answer questions about where you live in Illinois.
  • ask and answer questions about whether you live in an apartment, condo, or house.
  • ask and answer questions about what rooms you have in your home.
  • ask and answer questions about how many badrooms, baths, etc there are in your home.
  • ask and answer questions about what items (furniture) are in each room in your home.
  • ask and answer questions about where those items are within the room and relative to each other.
  • ask and answer questions about what activities take place in the rooms in your home.

By the end of this unit, you will have learned:

  • how Japanese and American homes differ.
  • how to use two new counting devices: a generic one (一つ), and one for counting tatami mats.
  • vocabulary for many different kinds of household items—particularly those relative to your home and your families lifestyle.
  • some new action words/verbs.
  • how to use the inanimate existence verb.
