Unit Objectives

TIME:  5 weeks

By the end of this unit, you will be able to:

  • ask and answer questions about what you do or don’t do in your free time.
  • ask and answer questions about what you did or didn’t do in your free time.
  • ask and answer questions about what you want or don’t want to do in your free time.
  • ask and answer questions about what you wanted or didn’t want to do in your free time.
  • ask and answer questions about what you like or don’t like to do in your free time.
  • ask and answer questions about which of two activities you prefer to do.
  • ask and answer questions about what you will probably do, plan to do, intend to do, or think you’ll do in your free time.
  • ask and answer questions about which of two activities you do more often.
  • write any of these questions and answers.

By the end of this unit, you will have learned:

  • and committed to memory the Dictionary Form for about 45 verbs.
  • and committed to memory the kanji for at least a dozen new verbs.
  • the 3 main verb types and how they conjugate — Drop, Shift, & Drop–Shift.
  • the casual verb forms for Non–Past positive—what might be called the infinitive, and the negative.
  • the “want–to” form of action verbs.
  • the conjunctive “and” form for verbs & how to speak about sequential actions in a single sentence.
  • how to nominalize the Dictionary Form/infinitive.
  • how to speak of future events as probable instead of certain or definite.
