IMSA alumni Jenny Deller’s (class of 1994) first movie, “Future Weather,” is out on DVD and available to check out in the IRC. Jenny’s first feature film was shown at the Siskel Film Center in Chicago earlier this year.

The film is set in Southern Illinois, and the main character is a 13-year-old girl with an avid interest in science. You can view the trailer here: http://futureweathermovie.com/

According to promotional material about the film, Jenny was inspired by a New Yorker article on global warming. She uses science and the environment as a backdrop to examine the intertwining lives of three generations of women, the young protagonist, her mother and grandmother. Chicago natives and acclaimed actresses Amy Madigan and Lili Taylor are featured in the film.

After premiering at the Tribeca Film Fest, “Future Weather” played at the Seattle International Film Festival, Nantucket, Philadelphia and others. It won the Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Award at the Hamptons Film Festival for its unique treatment of global warming. It also received the jury prize for Best U.S. Feature from Napa Valley Film Festival, and the Crystal Heart Award from the Heartland Film Festival.

If you’re looking for a film that explores themes of courage and change along with science, stop by the IRC and check out “Future Weather” during the month of June.
