Daytime Tutors Available in the IRC

Starting today, September 30, 2014, daytime tutors are available in the IRC for anyone who needs help or has questions. At this time, there are two IMSA students who have been approved to tutor.

IMSA student Diana Chen will be available Tuesdays from 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Her areas of expertise are MCB, SI Bio, SI Physics, Sound & Light and Spanish.  IMSA student Katherin Su will be available Mondays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. and her areas of expertise are Chemistry, MI 3&4 and French 1-3.

Students who wish to work with the tutors, should come to the Computer Lab area of the IRC during the times and days when tutors are available. The tutors are easily identifiable by the signs on the desks.

This new tutor program was prompted by a student focus group that met in the IRC last year. Connie James-Jenkin, IRC Collection Development and Reference Librarian, said that the students in the focus group requested daytime tutors.

The tutors are IMSA students who go through a selection process with Amy Keck, who is the Learning Strategies Coordinator. Students who wish to apply to be a tutor should contact Amy at akeck@imsa.edu.

“The hours and areas of study are subject to change,” said Connie James-Jenkin. “We hope the program will expand to include more tutors.”
