Hit or Miss: Wednesday Season Two Part One

Spooky season is approaching, and the second part of season two of the hit show Wednesday has been released so it’s time for bingeing! But how was part one?

Beloved characters — Wednesday, Enid, Eugene, and even Tyler — make a reappearance (though Xaiver went away to Switzerland) and not only that, Wednesday’s brother, Pugsley, joins the team at Nevermore Academy! There’s also an addition of a creepy invisible girl named Agnes who is a Wednesday wanna-be. Though some of these characters were greatly loved in season one, in season two, they became widely hated. This is especially true for Enid. She was an ultimate fan favorite in season one, but in season two, she seemed to grow more distant from Wednesday, even when she complained about it. Enid started hanging out with people from her pack and became very close with a werewolf named Bruno, though she was still dating Ajax. She claims that over the summer, she just stopped having feelings for Ajax but never told him that they should break up, and even after school started, Enid refused to tell him and ran away every time Ajax was in sight. It seemed a bit out of character for Enid to cheat on Ajax!

The new characters, Pugsley and Agnes, aren’t exactly the most likeable. Pugsley made a series of bad decisions that nearly cost his father’s life and caused immense destruction to the Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital where Tyler was being kept. He’s also generally an uninteresting character, but the script writers had to get that zombie storyline somehow because there’s no doubt that it’s important in part two (I haven’t watched it yet). However, the zombie storyline seemed unnecessary up until the end of part one, where Slurp confronts an old friend in the psychiatric hospital.

Agnes, as a character, she fits in with Wednesday very well. Most fans don’t approve of her because she seemed to replace Enid after her sudden character change. The last season left off with an interesting cliff hanger, which revealed that Wednesday had a stalker. There was a lot of potential for a good storyline, but in season two, it was revealed that the stalker was Agnes, who just wanted to get Wednesday’s attention. It was quite an anti-climactic revelation that really could’ve been something more.

Overall, Wednesday season two part one has been pretty disappointing. It didn’t live up to the hype of season one, which wasn’t particularly good either. However, this part was even worse and wasn’t very entertaining. I wouldn’t recommend watching season two, but if you have nothing else to do, it’s worth a try!
