How to Have the Perfect Dinner Date

How to Have the Perfect Dinner Date
Step 1: Picking a Dinner Date
How do you choose a suitable boy/girl who won’t make the night awkward? Taylor Knopf, an experienced upperclassman who survived twelve dinner dates in her IMSA career says “Pick someone who is a guy/girl friend who you can talk to for an hour and a half.” Also, make sure you actually want to go with your dinner date. Otherwise, it might show in the conversation with your date. However, it’s okay if you don’t know your date. The night can be full of surprises!
Step 2: Dressing for Your Date
Dressing for dinner dates is tricky. You can’t look like you are trying too hard, but obviously you don’t want to look too sloppy. Dress neatly and attractively, but don’t go over the top with jewelry, makeup, or super fancy dresses/suits. Make sure you are comfortable with what you are wearing! Don’t let anyone else dress you for your dinner date. Keep the hair simple. Since dinner dates are usually held on weekdays, you won’t have a lot of time to do your hair.
Step 3: Talking to Your Dinner Date
If you don’t know your dinner date, don’t be shy. If someone agreed to come to a dinner date without knowing you, it means they are genuinely nice and want to be there. Start talking about something you have in common, such classes, teachers, or sports. Usually, conversation tends to loosen up, and begins to flow more naturally. Always direct the attention back to your dinner date by asking them questions about themselves, especially if you don’t want to talk to them. Another key point: make sure you sit with another couple with whom conversation can flow easily.
Hopefully, these tips will help you on any future dinner dates and avoid any sticky situations!
