IMSA is adding several new courses and making adjustments for the 2026 to 2027 school year across math, computer science, English, history, and world language departments.
In math, MAT413 and MAT414 Statistics will now be offered as a single semester dual credit course, replacing the previous two-semester sequence. This shift allows students to earn college credit more efficiently while still covering core concepts like probability and data analysis. For students looking to go further, MAT418 and MAT419 Advanced Topics in Data Analysis will give students the chance to work with more complex models and real-world data.
In computer science, CS421 Robotics and Control Systems will focus on how robots are designed and programmed. Students will study control systems, feedback loops, and the basics of automation.
The English department is introducing ENG325 AI in Text and AI as Text, which explores how artificial intelligence appears in literature and how it changes the way we think about writing and creativity. ENG361 Tolkien Language and Literature, returning for the first time since 2019 to 2020, invites students to study the linguistic and mythological depth of J.R.R. Tolkien’s work, including texts such as The Lord of the Rings.
In the history and social sciences, HSS201j Empires in World History will examine major empires and their impact over time. HSS346 Historical Studies of Insects and Plants takes a more unexpected approach, focusing on how insects and plants have shaped trade and science which affect everyday life.
In world languages, WLG260 Perspectivas en el Mundo Hispano will focus on cultural and literary perspectives from the Spanish speaking world. Even with the addition of a new SIR opportunity, SIR100v and 200v Derechos Humanos Lingüísticos will explore linguistic human rights and the connections between language and identity, as well as how they shape policy.
These new courses expand IMSA’s offerings and give students more options to explore both technical and humanities-based subjects.
