A new school year means another year of culture shows! The IMSA culture shows are performances performed by student organizations such as ASIA, ISA (Indian Student Association), BSU (Black Student Union), and Alma Latina. These shows are meant to showcase different cultures and provide awareness for each student organization. Throughout these performances, numerous talents are presented, including singing, dancing, poetry, acting, individual acts, and more!
However, due to the fact that IMSA is completely remote until further notice, all culture clubs have taken a different step towards planning their shows this year, which has involved club partnerships and virtual platforms.
Although we don’t want to spill any big secrets, here is an overview of what BSU, Alma Latina, and ASIA are planning to do this upcoming year!
BSU and Alma Latina are very excited to share that they will be hosting a cross-culture show together! BSU has shared that “it’s going to be very different from what we usually see with the traditional culture shows in terms of the content and the format.” Along with this, Alma Latina added that “it is going to potentially feature a virtual animated script of sorts.” Both clubs emphasized the fact that the show will highlight the intersection between the two cultures, while simultaneously “celebrating them individually!” This culture show will take place mid-late spring, around the time that Casa de Alma usually runs.
At this time, we have limited information about the future of Lunar New Year and Diwali, but be sure to stay tuned for updates!
We are so excited and can’t wait to see how all the culture shows unfold this year! Although these are unprecedented times, keeping a positive mindset and looking forward to events like these will help us make the most out of this year.
