Virtual Graduation and Senior Celebrations

On March 30th, IMSA will be celebrating the class of 2020’s graduation in a non-traditional live stream ceremony. The pandemic has placed temporary brakes on the moving pieces in our lives, but we are readjusting, reorganizing, and carrying on to honor the work and successes of the senior class. 

Suggestions for an alternative ceremony were heard and communicated by the Senior Class Club, and the decision to hold a live stream ceremony was reached by an executive cabinet consisting of members of IMSA administration.

Graduation is a milestone and a memorable ceremony is a cultural rite of passage for high school seniors. What this year’s graduates all have in common is that they will not be able to walk the stage to receive their diploma or move their tassels from right to left alongside their peers and the people that supported them along the way. IMSA teachers, staff, parents, and underclassmen share in the disappointment and grief of this loss, and are motivated to show their support tenfold. The Student Council, SCC, and IMSA administration have worked in collaboration to emulate the graduation experience as closely as possible, and IMSA Student Productions has been working diligently to create a senior video to commemorate the class of 2020’s high school journey. 

As for senior celebrations, the administration and the Senior Class Club reached the decision to cancel prom. In its place, SCC is organizing to send all seniors a class gift and class spirit wear. The rest of the money SCC has raised will be donated to a COVID-19 relief fund.  As we wait for the state of the virus to progress, members of the IMSA community are doing what they can to salute the class of 2020 for all that they have achieved.
